The pier at the <a title=\"the London Eye\" href=\"http:\/\/www.londoneye.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">London Eye<\/a> serves both this commuter-style service and the tourist boats &#8211; the Clipper is significantly faster though even with the extra stops.<\/p>\n<p>At Greenwich, the <a title=\"Cutty Sark\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cuttysark.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cutty Sark<\/a> is still shrouded in scaffolding after the <a title=\"Cutty Sark Fire \" href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/uk\/6675381.stm\" target=\"_blank\">terrible fire<\/a> last year. We took the kids to the <a title=\"National Maritime Museum\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nmm.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Maritime Museum<\/a> and enjoyed the Toy Ships exhibition currently showing there.<\/p>\n<p>What caught my eye, one pictured here as No.5, are some Stirling-engine powered boats. The description for this example reads:<\/p>\n<address> &#8220;Hot-air-propelled warship and box.\u00a0 <a title=\"about J William Sutcliffe\" href=\"http:\/\/www.buzzboats.com\/works1.htm\" target=\"_blank\">J William Sutcliffe<\/a> founded his sheet-metal works near Leeds in 1885. Producing its first toy boar in 1920, the company would pioneer the production of boat hulls from a single pressing. This boat, one of their long-running warship designs, is powered by a simple water-filled engine heated by a small methylated-spirit burner.&#8221;<\/address>\n<figure id=\"attachment_508\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-508\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wickham.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/pop-pop-boat-tin-toy-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-508\" title=\"pop-pop-boat-tin-toy-2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wickham.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/pop-pop-boat-tin-toy-2-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Pop Pop Boat\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wickham.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/pop-pop-boat-tin-toy-2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.wickham.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/pop-pop-boat-tin-toy-2.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 85vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-508\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pop Pop Boat \u00a34.50 at NMR<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In the shop on the way out I picked up a <a title=\"Pop-pop boat\" href=\"http:\/\/www.toyday.co.uk\/shop\/collectable-toys\/tin-toys\/pop-pop-boat\/prod_496.html\" target=\"_blank\">pop-pop boat<\/a>, powered by candle.
