Unfortunately so far, little of the digitised data is freely available online (though freely available in public libraries). It seems as though the agencies which held the data have allowed monopoly providers to sell the data in return for their financial contribution to digitising the data.<\/p>\n<p>The exception I&#8217;ve found has been <a title=\"Google Books\" href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=FOVsAAAAMAAJ&amp;oe=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\">Google Books<\/a> &#8211; digitised versions of out of copyright books.<\/p>\n<p>Searching on Google for unusual names, or a name with a date if you have it can also be fruitful. I found a website about a <a title=\"Archdale Palmer Wickham\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rooksbridge.org.uk\/St%20Marys\/vicars.htm#Rev.%20Archdale%20Palmer%20Wickham%201911%20-%201935\" target=\"_blank\">particular village<\/a> where an ancestor had been the vicar and there was lots of additional information there.<\/p>\n<p>List of Useful Tools<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a title=\"The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding\" href=\"http:\/\/lythgoes.net\/genealogy\/software.php\" target=\"_blank\">TNG<\/a> &#8211; software used to build the site. Requires <a title=\"PHP Hosting from 2020Media.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.2020media.com\" target=\"_blank\">PHP Hosting<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"My Heritage\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myheritage.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">MyHeritage<\/a> &#8211; Desktop software, free version, used to produce printable vertical family trees.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"EzeePlan Large format printing\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ezeeplan.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">EzeePlan<\/a> &#8211; very helpful printers who produced a 2x A0 size print on a single roll of paper.
